DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, American Watch Co, Model 1872, 21J, 16S, 14K gold OF Roy case, gold cuvette, fancy white enamel SS impressed dial with blue markings, ornate gold foil decoration, silver foil insets at 5-minute positions and within seconds-register, blue glass insets around center, fancy gilt Louis XV style hands, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, quilted pattern nickel damascene, s#2747981. Gross weight of assembled watch 63.7 dwt (99.0 g). A beautifully finished top grade movement; Waltham's Model 1872 "American Watch Co." grade is considered by many collectors to represent the peak of movement finish quality and aesthetics among American industrial watchmaking.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces with few small micro-fine scratches, winding wheels with few minuscule specks of oxide; flawless dial; nearly mint hands, very slight bend to tip of minute; case shows medium wear, shallow dents to rear and cuvette, some mild dents to band, majority of engine turning detail to rear is fully lost with reduced remaining detail mainly around more central areas, case rear opens short of 90 degrees (to approximately 80 degrees); brassy replacement bow pivots freely, crown shows ample wear with ridge break; good glass crystal.
